Molly Gordon finally got me to watch The Bear. Now, I’d wanted to check out the show for some time now, but it’s no secret that I’m bad about television. However, Emmy season can be a real help there, as the opportunity to speak with Gordon was the kick in the pants I needed. Much like with Zach Braff and Ted Lasso (here) a few years ago, I was delighted to discover that I absolutely adore the show. So, it made me all the more excited to talk to Gordon, one of my favorite emerging talents. We hopped on Zoom recently for a lovely discussion, which you can check out in all of its glory today.
Below, you can see my conversation with Gordon. We touch on her filmmaking debut Theater Camp (reviewed here out of that year’s Sundance Film Festival), as well as my adoration for her work in Booksmart and Shiva Baby. Ironically, this chat happened on the same day as I spoke to her Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty co-star Adrien Brody (here). In this talk, I’m keen to know about how she picks a project, as well as what it takes. She brings a unique energy to The Bear and really represents a turning point in the show. Her character is unlike any other, really giving a specific flavor to Season Two. It’s clear she’s savoring it, not just because her career is still on the rise, but because she relishes working with someone like Jeremy Allen White (who I spoke to here about The Iron Claw, alongside Zac Efron). She’s lovely and about to become a huge star, so this is the perfect time to pick her brain. If you’re a fool like I was about haven’t watched The Bear yet, catch up on Hulu ASAP!
Here now is my interview with The Bear cast member Molly Gordon. Enjoy:
